<dc:title>Photo of Paddle Steamer SS “Lovedale”</dc:title>
<dc:description>"This photograph of the Paddle Steamer SS \u201cLovedale\u201d which was the Stornoway Mail Steamer sailing from Stromeferry to Stornoway before the railway line was extended to Kyle of Lochalsh and the service then operated to and from Kyle. I am not sure if it is copyright of not as I saw it on the internet. This photograph was taken at Lochmaddy Pier many years ago. In it you can see the cargo shed made of corrugated iron painted in a light colour, you can clearly see the window in the gable end wall that was fitted with a red pane of glass, which a paraffin lamp was placed inside it in the dark when a ship was approached to let the Captain see the dangers of the rocks at the inside of the pier. On the outside of the pier, the berthing face, had two anchor paraffin lamps to let the Captain see the line of the berthing face. Before the shed was finally demolished around 1950 it was painted green at that time." </dc:description>
